My Bridesmaids: Emerald Velvet Dresses and Meaningful Gifts

Let me start by saying how fortunate I felt to have such an incredible group of women by my side on my wedding day. It may sound like a cliché, but it is entirely true. Every one of these girls means the world to me, and I cannot imagine the day without them. Some I have known since birth, some I have grown up alongside through every phase of life, and others I met through Trey. Each of them is truly one of a kind.

In this post, I am walking through how I picked the bridesmaid dresses—the color, the fabric, and where they came from—the gifts I gave my girls and the reasons behind them, plus introductions to my bridesmaids, junior bridesmaid, and flower girls. The wedding vendor credits are included at the end.

How I Chose the Bridesmaid Dresses

I knew right away that emerald green was the color I wanted for my December wedding. To me, emerald green is flattering on everyone, feels timeless, and offers a rich depth of color. When I began browsing dresses, I was torn between satin and velvet. I thought about mixing the two fabrics and alternating them, but decided against it. That would have meant picking a specific dress for each girl, and I wanted them to choose the style they felt most comfortable in. In the end, I went with velvet because it is a fabric you can really only wear in the colder months, and it adds a fun texture.

I picked Revelry for the dresses because they carried so many different styles in velvet emerald green. They are a completely online dress shop, which makes their try-on process unique and easy. You can choose up to ten different styles to try on, and they ship them straight to you. In my research, I found they have one of the most inclusive size ranges (0–32) and even offer different lengths to order—petite, regular, and long. They are a growing business and are always adding new styles, colors, and fabrics. A big bonus is that they offer matching ties and pocket squares for the men. A new dress they now offer, which they did not have when we ordered, is junior bridesmaid dresses. I think that is a brilliant idea because we had to order fabric and find someone to make a similar dress for Jolie.

One of the main reasons I chose Revelry was that their dresses do not look too “bridesmaidy” and can actually be worn again. I narrowed the selection down to three different styles for my girls to choose from. If you know me, I had to control some aspect of it because I did not want everyone to end up in the same dress or a style I did not like. The styles were the Dylan Velvet Dress, the Giselle Velvet Dress, and the Gwen Velvet Dress, and my sister wore the Tori Velvet Dress.

The Gifts I Gave My Girls

I gave my bridesmaids five different gifts, which I handed out after my bridal luncheon a few hours before the rehearsal. I chose that timing so they could use the gifts the morning of the wedding if they wanted to. I gave each of them a Lilly Pulitzer tote bag and placed all the other gifts inside. The bags worked out perfectly because all the girls brought what they needed for the day in them.

I also gave them satin matching pajamas and monogrammed slippers. I gifted these items purely for the getting-ready photos. Sometimes it really is all about the photo ops. Next was a monogrammed hanger so they could hang their dresses. This made it easy for each girl to find her dress when it was time to get dressed. Lastly, I gave them Natalie Wood Designs earrings to wear for the ceremony. They were a classic gold hoop with a little twist. The earrings were unique and can easily be styled with outfits for any occasion. They were called the “Southern Charm” earring but are sold out now, so I will link the matching necklace.

For my junior bridesmaid and two flower girls, I gave them their own monogrammed hanger and a Jon Hart Pouch with their names.
