Baseball is officially back! The offseason seemed to vanish in the blink of an eye, and before we knew it, it was time to trade cozy holiday moments with loved ones for the sunny fields of Arizona. We cherished every minute at home, but our hearts were set on returning to Spring Training.
The Long Drive to Arizona
We hit the road on Saturday morning, February 11, for our 16-hour journey, arriving at our Scottsdale Airbnb just in time for the Super Bowl the next afternoon. If you've ever traveled I-10 through West Texas, you know the drill—miles of open road with little to break the monotony. We've made this trek enough times to know exactly what lies ahead, for better or worse.
First Day of Big-League Camp
Big-League Camp kicked off on Valentine's Day this year, and we couldn't have been more grateful that Trey reported healthy for the first time since 2020. After everything we've been through, we've learned never to take a normal Spring Training for granted.
Trey thoroughly enjoyed his time at camp before the games began. He absorbed new knowledge, forged lasting friendships, and—most importantly—stayed injury-free. When games started in late February, I made it a point to attend as many as possible. The weather, however, was anything but typical Arizona sunshine. Cold, rainy, and overcast days persisted until mid-March, and I found myself wishing I'd packed more layers for those chilly afternoons at the ballpark.
Trey's Spring Training Performance
Trey took the mound in three games during Big League Camp and also traveled to Las Vegas for Big League Weekend. With each appearance, he grew stronger and more confident, thrilled to be competing again. Watching him shine on the mound was an incredible feeling!
A Weekend in Las Vegas
Our quick getaway to Las Vegas came at the perfect moment, offering a refreshing break from the Spring Training routine. The team was put up at the Mirage for two nights, and the players had free rein each evening. On Saturday, a few of us caught our first comedy show at the Wynn, featuring Sebastian Maniscalco—he had us in stitches. I'm so glad I made the drive; I bonded with some of the other wives and girlfriends, and we all had a blast on that complimentary trip!
Final Weeks in Phoenix
Back in Phoenix, the last three weeks of Spring Training flew by in a blur. One of the best parts of this time is that so many of our baseball friends are in the same city—a rare treat. We made the most of it, soaking up every moment with friends we don't get to see often.
Heading to Midland, Texas
Just days ago, Trey learned we'd be starting the season in Texas! We're off to Midland, where he'll pitch for the Rockhounds. We're buzzing with excitement to get the season underway and hoping for a healthy, successful run. Here's to late nights at the ballpark, countless hotdog dinners, road trips, and making new friends along the way!
2023 baseball season, we're ready for you!
