Last Fling Down King- Bachelorette weekend in Charleston

Last Fling Down King- Bachelorette weekend in Charleston

Charleston, every southern girls favorite place. From the historical small town feels, ocean views, landscape, and beautiful houses what more could a girl want! Charleston is such a beautiful town in the spring/summer months with all of the flowers in bloom. This town offers so much for everybody of all ages. It has the nightlife, historical charm, beach fun, shopping, plus family friendly! If there would be a town I’d dream of living in it would be Charleston!

When thinking of a place to go on my Bachelorette party I wanted to go somewhere fun where everyone would enjoy. Charleston seemed to call my heart and it was a no brainer of a choice for me! We HAD to go to Charleston on my Bachelorette weekend!!

The planning for Charleston began! Let me start by giving my older sister Bethany some credit, she planned everything perfectly! She had an itinerary and restaurant reservations all planned out with the top thing to do and see in Charleston. I think that is the number one thing to do to have a successful trip, HAVE AN ITINERARY! It doesn’t have to be minute by minute, but it gives you a plan. If we would not have had a plan, I really do not believe we would have gotten to see so much that Charleston has to offer.

Thursday we all flew in and got settled in the cutest house on Mt. Pleasant. We choose Mt. Pleasant because it offered more house options and was just a short Uber ride over the Ravenal Bridge from Charleston. Our house had the perfect amount of space and had everything we needed in a great location! Once we all got ready for the night, we headed over to Charleston. Before we headed to have drinks, we walked around “The Battery” and found the famous pineapple fountain! From a girl who loves pineapples this was one of my favorite parts. You can spot pineapples throughout Charleston showing their towns symbol of hospitality.

After venturing around The Battery, we made our way to the rooftop bar at the boutique hotel “The Vendue” in historical downtown Charleston. This is such a cute fun spot to have drinks, overlook the city, and partake with the locals. You can see almost all of the iconic areas of the city atop this roof. We had a few drinks, some queso and guac, and enjoyed the atmosphere all excited for what the weekend had in store.

Our dinner reservations were at “Fleet Landing” a top-rated waterfront seafood restaurant. It is located at the foot of the City Market another must see while in the city and walking distance from where we were at “The Vendue”. I highly recommend reservations because this place is packed at all times on the weekend. I am picky when it comes to seafood, so I usually stick to fried shrimp and it was fantastic! The girls all ordered different seafood plates, and everyone enjoyed their dinner! Tired from traveling, after dinner we headed back to the house to relax since we were going to have a long busy day on Friday.

We started off our morning early, so that we had time to do everything we wanted in the city. Our first stop was brunch at “Millers All Day” located on the famous King Street. They do not take reservations, so we wanted to get there early enough so we did not have a long wait. This breakfast spot was perfectly located for us since we were going to be walking and sightseeing most of the day and a lot of the sights we wanted to see were in the area.

Some of our favorite popular locations we visited were the 4 corners, The Battery, Rainbow Row, Pineapple fountain, Market Street, and King Street. There are so many historical buildings in Charleston it was hard to choose which ones to go see. You could definitely spend multiple days touring around the city. I recommend before visiting research places you want to see so that you can map out a walking tour. That way no time is wasted walking all around the town. We decided to walk to see more sights of Charleston and boy was it worth it! Many hours and miles later we conquered Charleston!! We finished our afternoon shopping on King Street where they have so many cute boutiques. I think I can say this for everyone after that long day we were ready to head to the house to relax for a bit before we had to get ready and go enjoy the nightlife that Charleston has to offer.

After the lingerie party at the house, we headed back into the city to have dinner at “Poogan’s Porch”. Poogan’s Porch is a classic southern restaurant nestled on Queen Street in an old Victorian Styled home. This is one of the most popular restaurants to visit while in Charleston so make sure and make a reservation. It serves the best homemade southern style biscuits, fried chicken, and collard greens. Foods that you must try at Poogan’s and throughout Charleston are southern collard greens, pimento cheese, and she-crab. Once finished with this amazing dinner we made our way to the bars on King Street to kick off our night.

Saturday was a much more relaxing day. We had a lazy morning and cooked breakfast at the house before we went to Boone Farm Plantation in Mt. Pleasant. Boone is the closest plantation house to Charleston and a must see while in the area. Boone Farm Plantation for all of my Notebook lovers is the site of Ali’s summer home. The drive up to the house has the most beautiful large oak trees that have been there for hundreds of years. It is worth going here just to see the trees. We learned so much history about the Gullah culture from the live presentations that they offer from decedents of the Gullah people. Not only is Boone Farm beautiful but we gained so much knowledge as well. This was definitely a highlight from the trip for all of us.

After our wonderful morning at Boone Hall, we headed to the beach! We choose to go to Sullivans Island since it was closer to our house instead of IOP (Isle of Palms), but both are beautiful beaches. First thing we did was get some food because we were all starving! We stopped in at “Home Team BBQ” and had the BBQ nachos! Highly recommend, they hit the spot! This restaurant is located a block off the beach and on the main drag of the beach town. From there we made are way to the sandy beaches of South Carolina. The beach on Sullivans Island was very relaxing and not too crowded at all which made it perfect! We enjoyed basking in the sun and enjoyed the cool water for the rest of the afternoon.

Sullivan’s Island Beach

The last place we visited on the trip was “Saltwater Cowboys” for dinner and drinks in Mt. Pleasant. We had a blast here! A must visit when in Mt. Pleasant! It has such a fun night vibe with live music outside on Shem Creek and the food was incredible. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend with my friends!

Charleston is by far one of my most favorite towns to visit and I cannot wait to go back! I had the best of times with my girls, and it was a weekend we all will never forget!
