Viva Las Vegas!
Shocked, tremendously overjoyed, plus a little bit stressed were the emotions once Trey got the call that he was going to Las Vegas. We were both so excited and could not wait to get there to be reunited with great friends.
Our first stop on the crazy 3 months of travel that followed was Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a great first triple-A road trip as we got to explore a new city and meet a few new girls! If you are ever in downtown Salt Lake City, I highly recommend eating at Eggsburgh it was fantastic! We ate there 3 times that week.
We were in a different city/state each week so there were many long Sundays and Mondays spent at airports. I went to most of the road series because we were going to have to pay for a hotel whether I stayed in Vegas or went with the team. One bright side of being in triple- A, the wives were able to take the team bus to the airport and be on the same flight as the team. That saved us from having to spend money on Ubers which was very helpful!
Back in Las Vegas, the team treated us to three nights at the Red Rock Casino. Those days felt like a mini-vacation—the hotel was first-rate and the pool was wonderfully relaxing. Since our truck was being shipped from Midland, it was super convenient that Red Rock sat right across from the stadium, letting us walk to every game. For the rest of our time in Vegas, we stayed at the Suncoast Casino Hotel. I joked with Trey that I never imagined living in a hotel for a year—let alone a casino!
The Las Vegas Ballpark ranks among the finest minor league stadiums I've visited—and I've seen plenty! Player families were treated like VIPs, with passes that discounted food and drinks plus a suite every night. Those suites were a lifesaver when temperatures soared past 100. If you're in Vegas during baseball season, I highly recommend heading to Summerlin to catch a game. Afterward, cross the street to the shopping center and stop by Frankies Uptown for a stroll—they're delicious and come in tons of flavors.
Among the cities we visited were Albuquerque (where we spotted Vanessa Hudgens at a game), Reno (where we froze at a few August games), and Round Rock. Being in Round Rock was bittersweet—seeing so many friends and family made it feel like home, and we dreaded saying goodbye.
This season was one of my favorites, thanks to the wonderful group of women who made every game enjoyable. We cheered each other on and shared weekly dinners that deepened our bond. We even threw a surprise baby shower for one of the girls! I'll miss them all dearly and hope our paths cross again in the baseball world.
So much to be grateful for this season: Trey's first fully healthy year since 2019, finishing in Triple-A, and his incredible success. Add in the countless memories and friendships, and 2023 is a season we'll never forget.
Here's hoping the 2024 season is just as amazing—bring on the free agency offseason!
